Horseshoe Crab_September 2017, Coney Island, NYC, Brooklyn, USA
Today I took a subway to Coney Island (Brooklyn, NYC) and I was swimming in the Atlantic Ocean! :-) In the evening, just before the sunset, I noticed a horseshoe crab on the shore. First of all, the horseshoe crab (Limulus polyphemus)
is not a crab! It is more related to spiders and scorpions, and it is a relative of trilobite. The horseshoe crab have been on the planet
for 450 million years, and it is known as a living fossil.
Interestingly, blood of horseshoe crabs can be used to detect bacterial poisoning in humans. Intriguingly, horseshoe crab has 10 eyes and it is a known model organism for vision research. Horseshoe crabs are mating in May and June, I am already excited about it! hopefully I can record their mating behaviours! ;)

Pelham Bay Park – the largest park in New York City, August 2017, NYC, Bronx, USA
About four months ago I moved into the
USA, more specifically to New York City (NYC), which is one the most famous
city in the world and the most expensive city in the USA. I feel a bit like
starting my life from scratch. I arrived here alone. My friends, parents and my
siblings live in Europe. Also, my husband is still in Europe, but he should
join me in a couple of months. To feel well here, I need to build friendships.
This takes time.
By my photography I want to show you
this side of NYC that you might not know and even do not expect. NYC is more
than just 8.5 million people, cultural mix, Times Square, Statue of Liberty, rooftop
bars, great restaurants, cockroaches, mice and rats, but also the remnants of
pure and untouched nature, that you will be able to notice once you slow down
and carefully look around.
Currently I live in Manhattan. Last
Sunday, firstly I took a subway and then a bus to Bronx to visit Pelham Bay
Park. Pelham Bay Park is the largest public park in NYC, and it is more than
three times bigger than Central Park (the fifth largest park in NYC). I managed
to get familiar only with a small part of the park. I saw people barbecuing and
fishing, and some plants and animals ;)

Summer in NYC (Washington Heights/Harlem)_August 2017_NY_USA
I remember that
somebody told me that there is no nature in New York City. This is not true!
Have a look below! :-)
